Paula Dockery
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State Sen. Paula Dockery says she will run for governor, challenging Attorney General Bill McCollum for the Republican nomination.
Dockery said in an e-mail that she plans to file paperwork Tuesday to enter the race.
The Republican Party of Florida had hoped to avoid a primary. Earlier this year, Republican leaders convinced Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson to stay out of the race after initially saying he would run.
But the 48-year-old Dockery of Lakeland has said she’s been encouraged to get into the race.
Should Dockery win the primary, she would likely face Democrat Alex Sink. Either would be Florida’s first woman governor.

Paula Dockery has helped me more than once when I was ignored by others,when it was their job to help me! J.D. Alexander? Good luck getting through to him! I have been disabled since 2001. She cut through the red tape,the unanswered phone call’s,the call’s that were never returned,etc. Do you have any idea what it is like to be in Pain,with no money coming in,just bill’s and all you get is the ole run a round? No, you don’t! She put’s herself in your shoe’s and when she say’s she will call you back at a certain time,and you don’t hear from her,it’s because she hasn’t found a way to help you yet! She always return’s EVERY PHONE CALL,GOOD OR BAD! I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting her in person,so her staff,which is second to none,take’s care of me! Sarah and Laura are the two LADY’S that I have had the most contact with,but the whole staff is the same! I know,not think, she will make a Great Governor! I have already talked to Sarah about helping in anyway I can,to see that this happens! I’m not only going to Vote for her,I’m going to encourage others to do the same! Paula Dockery is going to be Great for the State of Florida! She isn’t just a Figure Head, she has “SAND” and doesn’t back down from ANYTHING OR ANYONE,just because thing’s get a little rough,and that’s very hard to find these day’s!
