In an early look of Florida’s 2010 Governor’s race, Republican Attorney General Bill McCollum leads Democratic State Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink 42% to 34%.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state shows 18% of voters are undecided.

Men in Florida favor McCollum by a 51% to 36% margin while women are almost evenly divided between the two. Voters not affiliated with either party lean towards McCollum by a 38% to 22% margin.

McCollum, who has served as the state’s attorney general since 2006, is viewed favorably by 53% of Florida voters, while 26% view him unfavorably. More than one in five voters (21%) shares no opinion of him. McCollum previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives for twenty years.

Sink is viewed favorably by 50% of voters in Florida, while 32% share an unfavorable view of her. Nineteen percent (19%) have no opinion of the state’s first female CFO. If elected, Sink would be the first female Governor of Florida.

Most voters (60%) approve of the way current Governor Charlie Christ is performing his job. Thirty-six percent (36%) disapprove of Crist, who plans on running on the Republican ticket for the state’s U.S. Senate race in 2010.

In an early look at that Senate race, Crist leads two potential Democratic candidates by substantial margins.

The latest survey also finds that most voters (69%) say the level of preparedness in the state for hurricane season is about the same as it was last year. Only 10% say the state is less prepared, while 19% say it is better prepared to handle this season’s weather.
